This organization, a local affiliate of the Yates County Habitat for Humanity, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to build homes and improve living conditions for those in need in the Finger Lakes region. While this area is a popular tourist destination, many residents live below the national poverty line, and the support from Habitat for Humanity is vital in improving their circumstances.
Schuyler County Habitat for Humanity operates solely on the generosity of volunteers, charitable donations, and community partnerships. With a community population of just 17,500, the volunteer base is limited, but that has not stopped them from successfully building 5 homes within the county. The 6th home was being built during the 2025 Owners Rally. It was awesome to be able to see the direct impact this organization makes by meeting the recipient family during our closing ceremonies and also when we present this years charitable donation at the build site later in September.
We are happy to report that the final donation from this years event was a grand total of $9010.00. This was beyond any of our expectations and dreams to be able to present Schuyler County Habitat for Humanity with this donation. For more information and highlights form Schuyler County Habitat for Humanity, follow them on their Facebook Page. If you are in the area visiting they are always looking for volunteers to work on the next build! Dates and times can be found on their Facebook account. To donate visit.
We were happy to lend a helping hand to a local favorite of our campground hosts, the Finger Lakes National Forest. As with many public works, federal funding for the FLNF has been greatly impacted by budget cuts. This year we were able to lend a helping hand with road and campsite clean up as well as tree tubing to a newly planted section of the forest.
This was not an easy volunteer event as the temperatures were in the high 90s that day. The volunteers persevered though and showed up in strong numbers. In three hours all areas in need of clean up as well as all tree tubing was complete. To celebrate, the volunteers congregated at Lucky Hare Brewing - Hector for a free celebration drink and burgers! The rangers at FLNF could not have been happier with the volunteerism and all that was accomplished.
